I use these for my pottery after it's fired to smooth out the bottoms and they work perfectly. They're a great size for holding in your hand and do the job without a ton of muscle required. The progression of grits works great for taking off really rough edges through to a super smooth finish. I was really impressed at just how much the 60 grit could smooth down on a piece that had to be chipped off the shelf. Just don't repeat my mistake of sealing them in the bag damp--they will rust. Make sure they're perfectly dry before putting them back in a sealed bag.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Diamond Polishing Pads

When selecting diamond polishing pads for porcelain, several factors should be taken into account to ensure you achieve the best results.

The quality of the diamond pad is paramount. Look for a high-quality pad that features a perfected bond of diamond and resins. This guarantees that each grit is specifically tailored for porcelain, providing a clear distinction between honing and polishing. Choosing a pad with a robust bond will yield long-lasting results and enhance the polish throughout the grit progression.

Cost is another essential aspect to consider. While cheaper polishing pads might be appealing, remember that you often get what you pay for. Investing in higher-quality pads may come at a higher initial expense, but they will save you money in the long run as they tend to last longer and provide superior results.

It's also crucial to assess the specific needs of your porcelain project. Different pads facilitate various materials, so ensure that you select a pad specifically tailored for porcelain. This will ensure optimal performance and a smoother polishing process.

Lastly, consider the application method. Some diamond polishing pads can be used dry, while others necessitate the addition of water. Determine your preferred polishing method and choose a pad that matches.

With these considerations in mind, you'll be equipped to select the right diamond polishing pads for your porcelain project, assuring high-quality results and durability.

How to Use Diamond Polishing Pads for Porcelain

Using diamond polishing pads for porcelain is straightforward, requiring some basic steps to achieve the results you seek. Here is a step-by-step guide:

Prepare the Surface: Ensure the porcelain surface is clean and devoid of any debris. Utilize a gentle detergent mixed with water for stain removal.

Select the Right Grit: Choose the appropriate pad grit based on your polishing level. For initial grinding and removing imperfections, begin with a lower grit pad (like 50 or 100 grit). Gradually transition to higher grit pads (200, 400, 800, etc.) to achieve a smooth finish.

Attach the Pad: Securely attach the diamond polishing pad to a flexible angle grinder to ensure effective polishing.

Wet the Surface: Although it’s possible to polish without water, wetting the porcelain with some water can yield better results by reducing friction and heat during the process.

Begin Polishing: Start polishing the porcelain surface, moving the angle grinder in a circular motion. Apply consistent pressure and maintain speed for a uniform finish. Begin with a lower grit pad and transition gradually.

Clean and Inspect: Periodically cleanse the surface with water to remove any residual slurry. This assessment will help you determine if further polishing is necessary.

Finishing Touches: Once you achieve the desired polish level, use a higher grit pad (such as 3000 or 6000 grit) for final touches to enhance shine.

Always prioritize safety by wearing appropriate protective gear while using diamond polishing pads for porcelain. With correct techniques and tools, professional-looking results can be yours, rejuvenating the beauty of your porcelain surfaces.
